According to the Wall Street Journal, the U.S. government rejected an antitrust settlement proposal from Electrolux in its efforts to close a $3.3 billion purchase of GE’s home-appliance business.
The Journal said that delays brought on by this challenge could affect GE’s efforts to focus on its high-value infrastructure businesses.
The Journal noted that the U.S. Justice Department fears the proposed acquisitions would decrease competition and hurt consumers, arguing that it would leave just two major suppliers of kitchen appliances in the U.S.
