ACT Research: Used Class 8 Truck Same Dealer Sales Rebound in May

Class 8 same dealer used truck sales volumes experienced an unexpected rebound in May, making up for last month’s decline, according to the latest release of the State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks, published by ACT Research.

“While volumes generally begin to fall off as summer approaches, May’s volumes were up month-over-month, offsetting a portion of April’s decline,” said Steve Tam, vice president at ACT Research. “With used truck prices stabilizing, it appears that truckers could be starting to take advantage of the low prices.”

Dealers are reporting that used truck sales appear to be showing signs of improvement, which is welcomed news.

“Although there continues to be an oversupply of used trucks, the mood of the used truck business is improving,” Tam said. “There is still an excess of late model aerodynamic sleeper trades in inventory, a fact that continues to cause concern among truckers and financers.”
